A not-so-new St. Petersburg writers group will host Free Writers Coffee House at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 15 at Unity-St. Petersburg, 6168 First Ave. N. Group members will read original works of prose, poetry and song.
Facilitator Mary Dawn Pyle started Free Writers last year. The group meets on the first Friday each month to share individual processes in the writer’s craft, participate in timed writing exercises, study and learn from established writers like Natalie Goldberg, whose Writing Down the Bones is a current reference.
Free Writers is not a critique group. Its purpose is to explore and express oneself freely through journaling, poetry, short prose/essay, fiction, memoir, playwriting and songs.
“I love being part of this group! Great opportunity to make good friends as we share feelings as well as our work. I also enjoy the writing exercises we do in group,” Pyle said.
I’ll be reading a selection from Anything & Everything: The Sassy Sandpiper and maybe a poem or two. If time permits, impromptu performances are welcome.
So mark your calendars! I’d love to see you there.
Donations will benefit Unity-St. Petersburg.
