Now It’s Tropical Storm Erika
By JON WILSON, Consulting Editor, TB Reporter
Hurricane Danny has fizzled, but a new storm has fired up in the Atlantic.
The National Weather Service is tracking the season’s fifth tropical cyclone. Tropical Storm Erika has winds of 45 mph and is about 800 miles east of the Leeward Islands. Erika is moving west and the National Hurricane Center expects it to reach hurricane strength later this week.
Most early models of the storm’s projected path show it curving to the northwest away from Florida. “Early” is the key word; Erika bears watching and as it strengthens, the models could change.
