Tropical Storm Erika gains no strength

By JON WILSON, Consulting Editor, TB Reporter

The storm still is forecast to scrape along Florida’s east coast starting Monday morning, by which time it may have reached hurricane strength.

Tropical Storm Erika continues to move west-northwest in the eastern Caribbean and is approaching Puerto Rico with 45 mph winds. It is not expected to strengthen during the next couple of days, but afterward may find conditions more favorable to get stronger, according to the National Hurricane Center’s 5 p.m. Thursday advisory.

Tampa Bay area residents should pay attention and double-check hurricane plans and supplies.
