Tampa Bay Firefighters Head to Texas

Urban Search and Rescue Florida Task Force 3, which consists of firefighters from the Tampa, Hillsborough and St. Petersburg fire rescue departments, are responding to help recovery efforts after Hurricane Harvey.

TAMPA BAY – Florida Urban Search and Rescue Florida Task Force 3 is heading to Texas to help with rescue and recovery efforts after Hurricane Harvey.

FL USAR TF 3 consists of firefighters from the Tampa, Hillsborough and St. Petersburg fire rescue departments.

The state Of Texas, through the Emergency Management Assistance Compact, has requested two swift water Rescue teams and support staff. The total staff deployment is two swift water rescue teams comprised of 18 members and seven logistical support members. A swift water rescue team is one that is specially trained to deal with white water river conditions.

TF3 left Tampa on Sunday (Aug. 27) night to stage in Pensacola before finishing the trip to the hurricane-affected region. Once deployed, TF3 will conduct operations and support for the state of Texas and the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

The deployment is scheduled to last through Sept. 6.
