St. Pete Opens Sand Bag Sites

City officials said they want to give residents plenty of time to prepare in case Hurricane Irma strikes.

ST. PETERSBURG -City officials have opened more sand bag sites because of the demand

In past named storms, city officials said they have typically have given out around 25,000 sandbags overmany days. During a four-hour period Tuesday (Sept. 5) they gave out 25,000 sandbags.

To meet that demand, three additional sand bag sites will be open, bringing the total number of sandbag sites to six. They will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. for the next several days.

Self-serve sites:

Lake Vista Recreation Center, 1401 62nd Ave. S

Azalea Park, 7200 16th Ave. N

Main Library, 3745 9th Ave. N ( west Parking lot)

The following sites will be a combination full serve and self serve:

Northeast Park, 875 62nd Ave. NE (Cardinal drive entrance to Mangrove Bay Golf Course)

Bartlett Park, 2000 7th St. S (off 22nd Avenue S between 6th and 7th streets)

Northwest Pool Parking Lot, 2331 60th S. N

Please bring proof of residency. Ten sandbags per resident.
