The sandbag sites will be open during daylight hours today (Aug. 9).

PINELLAS COUNTY – With more rain predicted for today, Pinellas County plans to make sandbags available at three sites.

The National Weather Service in Ruskin says a flood watch will remain in effect at least through tonight (Aug. 9).

“Numerous to widespread showers and isolated thunderstorms are expected to continue over [the Tampa Bay] area today. Portions of this area, especially along the coast, have already received 6 to 10 inches of rain during the past couple of days,” the Weather Service said in its 3 a.m. forecast.

It added, “Conditions will continue to be supportive of additional locally heavy rainfall amounts of 2 to 4 inches today with locally higher amounts possible in some locations.”

The Weather Service notes that a flood watch means there is a potential for flooding based on current forecasts. People living in flood-prone areas should be prepared to take action.

Sandbags will be available during daylight hours today (Aug. 9) at three locations:

• John Chesnut Sr. Park, 2200 East Lake Road in Palm Harbor
• Lealman Community Park, 3890 55th Ave. N in Lealman
• Taylor Park, 1100 Eighth Ave. SW in Largo

Sandbags will be limited to 20 per person. Material and bags will be supplied. Residents must fill their own sandbags. Shovels will be available. Pinellas County will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as they become available.
