Pinellas: Be Prepared, Residents Could Feel Some Effects from Dorian

With the slight shift westward in Hurricane Dorian’s track, Pinellas officials say the county may experience conditions similar to afternoon thunderstorms.

PINELLAS COUNTY – Emergency officials from Pinellas County are continuing to monitor Hurricane Dorian and say that residents should remain alert and prepared in the coming days.

Latest storm/incident developments

  • Hurricane Dorian’s track has shifted slightly west toward Florida’s east coast; Pinellas County may experience conditions similar to afternoon thunderstorms.
  • The county will continue monitoring the storm at the Emergency Operations Center until it turns north, and staff will be ready to respond if conditions change. Residents are reminded to stay prepared in the coming days.

Pinellas County response/action

  • Sandbag operations ended at 2 p.m. today (Sept. 1) with more than 31,000 bags distributed to unincorporated residents at three locations. No additional sandbag distribution is planned.
  • As of 2 p.m. today, the Citizen Information Center had received a total of more than 1,600 calls. The call center will remain open until 8 p.m. tonight and will operate from 8 a.m. – 8 p.m. Monday (Sept. 2). Call 727-464-4333.
  • The Emergency Operations Center will be open until 8 p.m. tonight and will resume operations at 8 a.m. Monday.
  • Parks will be open to the public on Labor Day Monday, however Fort De Soto campgrounds will be closed through Tuesday (Sept. 3) because of wind potential.
  • Most Pinellas County government offices will resume normal operating hours on Tuesday after the Labor Day holiday. Courts and the Tax Collector’s Office will remain closed Tuesday.
  • Visit St. Pete/Clearwater has activated a distressed traveler portal at where travelers can find real-time local hotel availability at vspc.info. The portal will continue to be populated with additional facilities.
