Hillsborough Partially Activates Emergency Operations Center

The limited activation will allow officials to better monitor Hurricane Michael.

TAMPA – Out of an abundance of caution, Hillsborough County has partially activated its emergency operations center in response to Hurricane Michael.

At this time, the hurricane is not forecast to significantly impact Hillsborough County. But, ofificials said, a limited activation of the EOC allows the county and partner agencies to better monitor the storm track and coordinate resources and operations if necessary.

The emergency policy group is scheduled to meet at 9 a.m. today (Oct. 9) to discuss actions related to the storm. The meeting will be held in the county commission boardroom on the second floor of County Center, 601 E Kennedy Blvd. in downtown Tampa. The EPG meeting will be held immediately before the county commission’s regularly-scheduled land use meeting.

The emergency policy group can proactively position the county to take specific response and recovery actions as needed. Gov. Rick Scott’s declared state of emergency for certain Florida counties was extended Monday to include Hillsborough.

The Hillsborough County emergency policy group is comprised of three county commissioners, the mayors from the cities of Plant City, Tampa and Temple Terrace, and the sheriff.
