GULFPORT – The city of Gulfport is organizing a donation drive of non-perishable items to send to the families and victims devastated by Hurricane Michael.

The donation truck is located at Gulfport City Hall, 2401 53rd St. S, today (Oct. 15) through Friday (Oct. 19). Residents are encouraged to donate non-perishable food items, drinking water, pet food, clothing undergarments, and personal hygiene products.

“The city of Gulfport, Florida, will support response and recovery efforts for Hurricane Michael however we can, and we are joining many others in trying to bring some measure of relief to our neighbors in the panhandle. The donation truck at Gulfport City Hall is yet another way that local individuals can offer assistance with Hurricane Michael recovery efforts,” Gulfport Mayor Sam Henderson said.

To meet patient needs, the Red Cross asks eligible individuals unaffected by Hurricane Michael to give blood. The storm has forced the cancellation of dozens of blood drives, causing approximately 700 units of blood to go uncollected with more blood drive cancellations likely. Gulfport residents are encouraged to donate blood at Gulfport City Hall, 2401 53rd St. S, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday.

“Thank you for your willingness to serve,” Henderson said. “Together, we can keep Gulfport strong and prosperous.”
