The driver received minor cuts, deputies said. The zebra was captured and returned to her owner.

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY – A loose zebra was the culprit in a traffic crash Friday (May 5) afternoon, Hillsborough sheriff’s deputies said.

Nathaniel Jolley, 21, of  Riverview, the driver of the pickup truck that the zebra hit, was taken to Brandon Hospital by private vehicle to be checked out. Deputies said he received small cuts in the crash.

It is unclear if the zebra was harmed. She was captured and returned to her owner, Jennifer Caudill of Balm.

The crash happened about 1:58 p.m. on County Road 672 just east of Amber Sweet Lane. Jolley was driving a Ford F150 pickup truck west on CR 672 when an adult female zebra that was walking along the south side of CR 672 ran into the driver’s side of the truck. The impact shattered the mirror. Deputies said some of the glass hit Jolley. The zebra then fled into a field.

Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office aviation found the zebra, which deputies and Caudill’s employees corralled.
