Wrong-Way Driver Hits, Injures Tampa Police Officer

The officer sustained minor injuries. The other driver was not injured, Tampa police say.

TAMPA – Police are investigating a traffic crash between a wrong-way driver and a Tampa police officer.

The crash happened about 3:22 this morning (Nov. 21) while the officer was driving eastbound on E Kennedy Boulevard in a marked police vehicle. Tampa police said a wrong-way driver entered his path of travel northbound from S Hyde Park Avenue. S Hyde Park is one-way southbound from E Kennedy.

The air bags on both the officer’s vehicle and the other driver’s vehicle deployed, officers said. The other driver was not injured. Tampa Fire Rescue took the officer to Tampa General Hospital with minor injuries.
