A van driver failed to stop, Hillsborough deputies said.

WESTCHASE – A motorcyclist died of injuries he suffered Sunday (Feb. 10) in a crash on Race Track Road, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said.

The name of the 66-year-old motorcyclist was not available. He died at St. Joseph’s Hospital where he was airlifted after the crash. It is unclear if others were injured in the crash.

The crash happened about 9:10 a.m.  at the intersection of Race Track Road and Countryway Boulevard in the Westchase area of Hillsborough County.

The deceased man, who was driving a 2007 Yamaha FJR motorcycle, was stopped behind a Nissan Rogue on southbound Race Track Road. Deputies said the driver of a Chrysler Town and County van failed to stop for the vehicles, causing his van to strike the motorcycle and the Rogue.

The motorcyclist was thrown from his bike and landed in the middle of the intersection. The motorcycle and the Rogue were pushed into the intersection where they came to a rest.

Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash.
