He left his lane and crashed almost head on with an oncoming pickup truck, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

PASCO COUNTY – A Wesley Chapel man died Tuesday (July 25) in an almost head-on traffic crash, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Windell Duane Hagins, 55,of Wesley Chapel, died at the scene. The other driver, Robert J. Santucci, 40, of Brooksville, was taken to Dade City Hospital in serious condition.

The crash happened about 7:07 a.m. on Prospect Road south of Leonard Road. Mr. Hagins was driving a 2002 Kia Sportage north on Prospect at a right-hand curve in the roadway when he crossed the double yellow lines and into the southbound lane. Troopers said he crashed almost head on into a 2017 Chevrolet Silverado driven by Santucci.

After the impact, the two vehicles spun and came to rest partly in the road and partly on the shoulder. It is unclear why Mr. Hagins traveled into the oncoming lane.
