PINELLAS COUNTY – Deputies are investigating a water scooter crash that sent the driver to the hospital, the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office said.

Juan P. Figueroa, 34, briefly lost consciousness and was taken to shore. Paramedics then flew him to St. Joseph’s Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The crash happened about 11:51 a.m. Sunday (March 10) in the intracoastal waterway, northwest of Dunedin and east of Honeymoon Island in Pinellas County.

Deputies said Figueroa was operating a 2016 Sea-doo personal watercraft and was jumping the wakes of passing boats when he crashed the personal watercraft striking his head injuring himself. It appears no other vessels were involved in the crash.
