U.S. 41 Crash Kills Ruskin Woman

She drove into the path of an oncoming SUV, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY – A Ruskin woman died Sunday (April 8) of injuries she received in a traffic crash, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Wilmette Baughman, 74, of Ruskin, died at St. Joseph’s Hospital where she was taken after the crash. Georgina Meredith, 46, the driver of the other vehicle, and her passengers, John Meredith, 14, and Matthew Meredith, 10, all of Ruskin, were taken to St. Joseph’s with minor injuries.

The crash happened about 10:58 a.m. at the intersection of U.S. 41 and 12th Street NE. Troopers said Ms. Baughman was westbound on 12th Street in a 1996 Mercedes. When she reached the U.S. 41 intersection, she tried to cross the highway to go south and traveled into the path of the 2012 Kia Sedona that Meredith was driving.
