Another New Port Richey woman was seriously injured in the crash, FHP troopers say.

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY – A New Port Richey woman died from injuries she suffered Saturday (Aug. 17) in a crash on U.S. 41, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Malek Gajani, 79, of New Port Richey, a passenger in one of the vehicles, died at Tampa General Hospital where she was taken after the crash. She was not wearing a seat belt, troopers said.

The driver of the car in which Ms. Gajani was riding, Hana Bandealy, 29, of New Port Richey, was taken to Advent Health Tampa with serious injuries. The other passenger in the car, Leila Bandealy, 50, of New Port Richey, was taken to Tampa General with minor injuries.

No one in the other vehicle was injured.

The crash happened about 9:35 p.m. at the intersection of U.S. 41 and E 121st Avenue in Hillsborough County.

Troopers said Aracely Garcia, 47, of Tampa, was driving a 2017 Nissan Armada south on U.S. 41 when she turned left into the path of the 2009 Volkswagen Jetta that Hana Bandealy was driving north on U.S. 41.

Alcohol was not a factor in the crash.

Troopers said charges are pending.
