U.S. 301 Crash Kills Tampa Man

Five vehicles were involved in the chain reaction crash, FHP troopers said.

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY – A Tampa man died of injuries he received Thursday in a five-vehicle crash on U.S. 301, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The man of the man who died, a 76 year old from Tampa, is being withheld until his next of kin are notified. He died at Tampa General Hospital where he was taken after the crash.

Peyton Lee Castellari , 18, and Javier Gutierrez-Gomez, 49, both of Riverview, were taken to Brandon Regional Medical Center with minor injuries. They were driving two of the vehicles involved in the crash.

Gutierrez-Gomez was cited for having no valid driver’s license.

The crash happened about 5:25 p.m. on northbound U.S. 301 under the I-75 overpass in Hillsborough County.

Troopers said all five vehicles were northbound on U.S. 301 in the inside lane. A 2011 Toyota Sienna driven by Debbie Ann Hansen, 43, of Ruskin, and a 2007 Chevrolet pickup driven by Peyton Lee Castellari, 18, of Riverview, were stopped for other traffic.

The unnamed man, who was driving a 2008 GMC Envoy, did not stop and hit the rear of the Toyota, which was pushed forward into the rear of the Chevrolet.

Gutierrez-Gomez, driving a 2004 Lincoln SUV behind the GMC, was unable to stop and hit the GMC. The GMC was pushed forward and again hit the rear of the Toyota, which was likewise propelled forward into the rear of the Chevrolet for the second time.

The Chevrolet, in turn, was pushed forward and hit the back of a 2016 GMC Sierra driven by Brandon Cristopher Horton, 35, of Monticello, MN.
