An SUV turned into the path of the motorcycle and both caught fire after the crash, FHP troopers said.

PASCO COUNTY – A Spring Hill man died of injuries received in a motorcycle crash Thursday night (Oct. 25) on U.S. 19, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Paul Thomas Mello, 31, of Spring Hill, died at the Regional Medical Center at Bayonet Point where he was taken after the crash. There were no other injuries.

The crash happened about 11:56 p.m. on U.S. 19 and Tower Drive in Pasco County.

Troopers said Mr. Mello was driving a 2008 Kawasaki Ninja south on U.S. 19 when he tried to make a U-turn. The motorcycle entered the path of a 1997 Ford SUV driven by Donald Patenaude, 29, of Spring Hill.

The two vehicles collided and the motorcycle became wedged under the SUV. As the SUV came to a stop, both vehicles caught fire.
