U.S. 19 Crash Kills Lecanto Man

A Bayonet Point woman was seriously injured in the crash, Florida Highway Patrol troopers said.

HERNANDO COUNTY – A man died and a woman was seriously injured from a traffic crash Saturday (Aug. 11) on U.S. 19, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Erik William Hoxie, 20, of Lecanto, died at Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point where he was taken after the crash. Stella Magliano, 71, of Bayonet Point, a passenger in the other vehicle, was taken to Bayonet Point hospital with serious injuries. Raymond Magliano, 71, of Bayonet Point, the driver of the other vehicle, suffered minor injuries but was not taken to a hospital.

The crash happened about 12:06 p.m. on U.S. 19 at Vespa Way in Hernando County.

Mr. Hoxie was driving a 1997 Acura Integra south on U.S. 19. He turned left into the path of a 2013 Chevrolet Silverado that Raymond Magliano was driving. After the vehicles collided, troopers said, the Acura rotated to the west side of the road and the Chevrolet spun and overturned onto the northbound shoulder of U.S. 19.
