Truck Hit Child, St. Petersburg Police Say

The boy is in critical condition at All Children’s Hospital, police say.

ST. PETERSBURG – A 9 year old was critically injured Friday (Dec. 16) when he was hit by a truck after he ran into the road, according to the St. Petersburg Police Department.

Da’shia Austin, 9, was taken to All Children’s Hospital where he is in critical condition, police said.

The collision happened about 4:17 p.m. on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street S and 13th Avenue. Police said that, as the child ran from the median to cross the road, a Ford F150 pickup truck driven by Theodore Demps, 67, struck him. Police said Demps cooperation with officers at the scene. The investigation is ongoing.
