The other driver ran a red light, St. Petersburg police said.

ST. PETERSBURG – The driver of a motor scooter died Sunday (Sept. 23) of injuries she suffered in a traffic crash, the St. Petersburg Police Department said.

Vallis Ann Oswain, 58, died at Bayfront Health St. Petersburg where she was taken after the crash. It is unclear whether her passenger, Daniel Jay Foreman, 30, suffered any injuries.

The crash happened about 2:22 a.m. at the intersection of Fifth Avenue N and Eighth Street in St. Petersburg.

Officers said Ms. Oswain was driving a 2015 motor scooter north on Eighth Street N with a green light at the intersection of Fifth Avenue. A 2012 Volkswagon Jetta driven by Harshit Srivastava, 39, was westbound on Fifth with a red light.

Srivastava ran the red light, police said,  and drove into Ms. Oswain’s path. The front of the scooter struck the driver’s side of Srivastava’s vehicle, throwing both Ms. Oswain and Foreman onto the road.

Impairment was not a factor in the crash and the investigation is ongoing, officers said.
