Tractor-Trailer Gets Tangled in Lines, Snaps Power Poles
One of the downed poles hit a car, FHP troopers said.
HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY – A Hillsborough County tractor-trailer loaded with garbage got tangled in fiber optic lines and snapped power poles on U.S. 41, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
The tractor-trailer driver, Julio Cesar Matus, 56, of Riverview, was cited for careless driving. He was not injured.
The crash happened about 8:09 a.m. today (Feb. 23) on southbound U.S. 41 approaching Big Bend Road in Hillsborough County.
Troopers said Matus was driving a 2017 Peterbilt semi-tractor-trailer south on U.S. 41. Matus failed to lower the coevr on the trailer, which was loaded with garbage, and it tangled with several fiber optic lines and snapped the power poles.
The tractor-trailer dragged the poles and power lines for a brief distance. One of the poles hit a 2015 Nissan Altima that was southbound on U.S. 41.
