Toddler Dies in Single-Vehicle Crash

The baby’s mother, two other children and another adult are in stable condition, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said.

RUSKIN – A toddler died Sunday (June 17) in a single-vehicle crash, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.

Christopher Garcia, 23 months, died at the scene. Deputies said he was unrestrained in the rear of the vehicle.

Christopher’s mother, Ashley Nicole Gonzalez Quinones, 24, of Ruskin; her friend, Luis Miguel Arzola-Pichardo, 31; a 4-year-old child; and a 3-month-old baby were taken to Tampa General Hospital in stable condition. Deputies said they believe the only person in the vehicle who was restrained was the 3-month-old baby.

Deputies said Quinones is the mother of all the children. Arzola-Pichardo is the father of the 3-month-old baby.

The crash happened about 6:30 p.m. in Ruskin. Deputies said  a 2004 Ford Explorer was traveling south on on 30th Street at about 45 miles per hour. The Ford Explorer drove right off the pavement, over corrected, and drove left across the roadway, rolling into a ditch. It is unclear who was driving.
