The driver is in serious condition. Florida Highway Patrol troopers are looking for another driver who left the scene.

HERNANDO COUNTY – A 17-year-old girl died Thursday (Aug. 23) when she was thrown from a Jeep when it overturned, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Kendell Jordan Tucker, 17, of Spring Hill, died at the scene. Jarod Lucas Waters , 20, of Hudson, the driver of the Jeep in which was riding, was taken to the Regional Medical Center at Bayonet Point in serious condition. Neither was wearing a seat belt. Alcohol was not a factor in the crash.

The crash happened about 4:42 p.m. on U.S. 19 near Glen Lakes Boulevard in Hernando County.

Waters was driving a 2001 Jeep Cherokee north on U.S. 19 approaching Glen Lakes. Another vehicle, identified as a silver Volkswagen sedan, was headed north on U.S. 19 in the inside lane next to the Jeep. Troopers said both vehicles were making erratic lane changes when Waters lost control of the Jeep.

The Jeep spun and overturned, throwing Ms. Tucker out of the vehicle.

The Volkswagen continued, made a U-turn at Glen Lakes to go south on U.S. 19. Anyone with any information regarding the Volkswagen is asked to contact the FHP at (813) 558-1800.
