HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY – A Land O’ Lakes teenager died in a traffic crash this morning (Jan. 21) with a Tampa police car, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Jordan Garrett, 17, of Land O’ Lakes, died at the scene. He was a passenger in a 1996 Saturn SLI driven by Ashlyn Price, 18, also of Land O’ Lakes. Price received minor injuries. Tampa police Officer Sigure O’Neil, 43, the driver of the other vehicle, also received minor injuries. Price and O’Neil were taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Tampa.

The crash happened about 12:15 a.m. at the intersection of U.S. 41 and Florida Avenue. Troopers said O’Neil was driving a 2004 Ford Crown Victoria north on Florida Avenue. As the Ford drove through the intersection of U.S. 41, it collided with the Saturn, which had been traveling south on U.S. 41. Troopers said the Saturn failed to stop for a red traffic signal.
