Taxi Passenger Dies after Pinellas Crash

Two others were seriously injured in the crash, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

PINELLAS COUNTY – A Canadian woman died of injuries she received in a traffic crash Wednesday (Jan. 4) on U.S. 19 N, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Mignonne Coyle, 71, of Ontario, Canada, died at Mease Countryside Hospital where she was taken after the crash. Frank Coyle, 72, of Ontario, another passenger in the taxi, and Joseph Castro Jr., 37, of Clearwater, the cab driver, were taken to Bayfront Health with serious injuries, troopers said. No one in the other car was injured, troopers said.

The crash happened about 6:58 p.m. on U.S. 19 N at Royal Boulevard. Castro was driving a 2007 Ford Crown Victoria taxi cab north on U.S. 19. He turned left on Royal Boulevard into the path of a 2011 Ford Mustang driven by Brandon Brooks, 20, of Largo. The Mustang hit the passenger side of the Ford, troopers said.
