Tampa Woman Dies After Pasco Crash

She turned into the path of an oncoming van, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

PASCO COUNTY – A Tampa woman died of injuries she suffered in a traffic crash Monday (March 26), the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Connie Raye Sands, 54, of Tampa, died at St. Joseph’s Hospital where she was taken after the crash. Guillermo A. Fernandez, 51, of Lutz, the other driver, was taken to Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point with minor injuries.

The crash happened about 9:59 a.m. at the intersection of U.S. 41 and Horton Road in Pasco County. Troopers said Ms. Sands, who was driving a 2003 Pontiac Sunfire, turned left from Horton Road onto U.S. 41. She turned into the path of the 2017 Dodge van that Fernandez was driving north on U.S. 41. The van hit the left side of the Pontiac.
