Tampa Woman Charged in Fatal Motorcycle Crash

She did not have a valid drivers license, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY – A Tampa woman was accused of having no drivers license after a crash Sunday (July 15) that killed a motorcyclist, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Brian William Lester, 54,of Tampa, died at the scene.

The other driver, Ruth Elizabeth Sanchez-Arias, 37, of Tampa, suffered minor injuries but was not taken to a hospital. Sanchez-Arias was charged with one count of driving without a valid drivers license involving death.

The crash happened about 8:49 p.m. on Bearss Avenue at I-275.

Troopers said Mr. Lester was driving a 2018 Honda motorcycle west on Bearss. When he got a green traffic signal, he turned left to go southbound on I-275. Sanchez-Arias was driving a 2005 Jeep Liberty east on Bearss. When she got to the intersection, troopers said, she ran the red light and the front of the Jeep hit the right side of the motorcycle.

After the impact, the Jeep continued until it hit the overpass support.
