Tampa Man Dies in State Road 574 Crash

He was not wearing a seat belt and was thrown from his SUV, according to FHP troopers.

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY – A Tampa man died Friday (Dec. 28) when he was thrown from his SUV during a crash on State Road 574, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Jerry Walker, 73, died at the scene. He was not wearing a seat belt.

The other driver, Daniel Olufemi Abrahams, 25, of Tampa, suffered minor injuries. He was not taken to a hospital.

The crash happened about 4:50 p.m. at the intersection of SR 574 and Garden Lane.

Troopers said Mr. Walker was driving a 2011 Kia Sorento east on SR 574 when he turned left at Garden Lane into the path of a westbound 2013 BMW 3 Abrahams.

The Kia and BMW collided. The Kia left the road and hit a traffic control box at the northwest corner of the intersection. Mr. Walker was thrown from the Kia.

The BMW also left the road and collided with a light pole, a TECO electrical box, and several trees on the north shoulder of SR 574.
