PASCO COUNTY – A Tampa man died Friday (Sept. 29) in a traffic crash after the other driver failed to stop at an intersection, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

John Leo Wilson, 52, of Tampa, died at the scene. He was not wearing a seat belt.

The other driver, Jason J. Alvarez, 38, of Zephyrhills, suffered minor injuries and was not taken to a hospital.

The crash happened about 6:38 a.m. at the intersection of Otis Allen Road and Old Lakeland Highway. Alvarez was driving a 2016 Ford Mustang east on Otis Allen. Mr. Wilson was driving a 2006 Dodge Ram north on Old Lakeland.

Troopers said Alvarez did not stop at a posted stop sign and collided with the Dodge. The Ford was propelled onto the eastern shoulder of the road where it hit a fence. The impact also pushed the Dodge onto the east shoulder of the road where it overturned.
