Tampa Man Dies in Suncoast Parkway Crash

He lost control of his car. FHP troopers say.

PASCO COUNTY – A Tampa man died Friday (Oct. 4) when his car crashed after he lost control of it on the Suncoast Parkway, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Scott J. Johnson, 50, of Tampa, died at the scene.

The crash happened about 7:13 p.m. at the toll plaza near mile marker 23 on the Suncoast Parkway (State Road 589) in Pasco County.

Troopers said Mr. Johnson was driving a 2000 Acura NSX north in the outside SUNPASS lane at the toll plaza when, for unknown reasons, he lost control of his car.

The car left the roadway and went onto the west grass shoulder where it hit a large steel post and came to rest.
