Tampa Man Critical After Semi Overturns, Bursts into Flames

He lost control of the semi, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

BREVARD COUNTY – A Tampa man is critical after the semi tractor-trailer he was driving overturned and burst into flames this morning (Jan. 22), according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Dumy Thelus, 29, of Tampa, was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center.

Troopers said Thelus was driving a 2011 semi truck east on State Road 528 about 6 a.m. when he tried to exit onto southbound I-95. As the semi entered the ramp, Thelus lost control and hit the concrete divider on the ramp. The semi overturned onto its side and caught fire.

Thelus was able to escape as the semi became totally engulfed in flames.

Debris from the crash hit a passing SUV causing minor damage but no injuries.

The crash remains under investigation troopers said.
