St. Petersburg Motorcyclist Dead After I-275 Crash

He lost control of his motorcycle while trying to pass two other vehicles, FHP troopers said.

PINELLAS COUNTY – A St. Petersburg motorcyclist died of injuries he suffered in a crash late Friday (May 3) on I-275, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Charles Jeffery Brackett , 27, of St. Petersburg, died at Bayfront Health St. Petersburg where he was taken after the crash. He was wearing a helmet. No one else was injured in the crash.

The crash happened about 10:02 p.m. on I-275 at mile marker 23 in Pinellas County.

Troopers said Mr. Brackett was driving a 2017 Yamaha YZF-R6 south in the inside lane of I-257. He tried to pass a 2018 Toyota Corolla that was in the center lane and a 2015 Ford F250 that was ahead of the motorcycle in the inside lane.

While trying to pass the other vehicles, troopers said Mr. Brackett lost control of his bike, which hit the Corolla. He was thrown from the bike and run over by the Ford.

The crash closed portions of southbound I-275 until about 2:30 a.m.
