St. Petersburg Motor Scooter Crash Kills Driver

She was thrown from the scooter, according to the St. Petersburg Police Department.

ST. PETERSBURG – A motor scooter driver died early this morning (Nov. 26) of injuries she received in a single-vehicle traffic crash, the St. Petersburg Police Department said.

Julia Jean Smith, 30, died at Bayfront Health St. Petersburg where she was taken after the crash.

The crash happened about 1:15 a.m. on Martin Luther King Street S just north of Eighth Avenue.

Police said she was driving a 2017 Taizhou Zhongneng scooter south on MLK whe, for an unknown reason, the scooter drifted toward the east side of the roadway and struck a curb. Ms. Smith lost control of the scooter and was thrown to the ground. Officers said alcohol was a factor in this crash.
