St. Petersburg Man Dies in Osceola County Crash

It is unclear if he was walking across a road or riding a skateboard, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

OSCEOLA COUNTY – A St. Petersburg man died Sunday (Nov. 19) evening when he was hit while crossing U.S. 192, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Matthew Mitchell, 24, of St. Petersburg, died at the scene. The driver of the SUV that hit him was not injured.

The crash happened about 7 p.m. on U.S. 192. Mr. Mitchell tried to cross U.S. 192 from south to north and traveled into the path of a 2008 Ford SUV driven by Victor Rodruguez, 34, of St. Cloud. The SUV overturned after it struck Mr. Mitchell, trooper said.

Troopers said the crash is still under investigation because it is unclear if Mr. Mitchell was walking or was riding a skateboard that was found at the scene of the crash.
