St. Petersburg Bicyclist Dies After Traffic Crash

He tried to cross a street and collided with a car, St. Pete police said.

ST. PETERSBURG – A St. Petersburg man died this morning (Jan. 10) from injuries he received in an early morning traffic crash, according to the St. Petersburg Police Department.

Sheldon Wagner Jr., 64, of St. Petersburg, died at Palms of Pasadena Hospital where he was taken after the crash.

Police said Mr. Wagner was riding a bicycle north on the west side of the southbound lane of 64th Street S, when he made a sudden attempt to cross the street. As he tried to cross from the west side of 64th to the east side of it, he collided with a 2008 Nissan Altima.

The driver was not able to react fast enough to avoid Mr. Wagner. Officers said the driver cooperated with the investigation and will not face any charges in the crash.
