St. Pete Police Accuse Ruskin Man in DUI, Hit and Run

Two pedestrians were injured in the First Avenue N crash, St. Petersburg police said.

ST. PETERSBURG – A man and a woman were injured when they were hit by an SUV while they were crossing First Avenue N, the St. Petersburg Police Department said.

Malcolme Sydney John Tunstall, 24, of St. Petersburg, suffered life-threatening injuries. Alexis Michele Scognamiglio, 23, also of St Petersburg, suffered minor inujries. Both were taken to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg.

Cameron Ray Baxley, 25, of Ruskin, was charged with one count each of DUI Serious Bodily Injury and Leaving the Scene of a Crash with Injuries.

The crash happened about 11:30 p.m. at the intersection of First Avenue N and Third Street.

Baxley was driving a  2014 Jeep Wrangler north on Third Street turning west onto First Avenue. Police said Baxley failed to yield to Tunstall and Scognamiglio who were crossing First Avenue from south to
north in a marked crosswalk.

Baxley struck both and fled the scene, officers said. He was stopped by St. Petersburg police several blocks away.
