Northbound I-75 was closed for almost six hours after the five-vehicle pileup, the Florida Highway Patrol says.

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY – A 19-year-old woman from Spring Hill died Thursday (Jan. 19) in a five-car chain reaction crash, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Nadia Anderson, 19, of Spring Hill, died at the scene. Pamela Wolfgang, 47, of New Port Richey, was taken to Florida Hospital Wesley Chapel with minor injuries. Troopers said there were no other injuries.

The crash happened about 6:04 p.m. at the 272 mile marker on northbound I-75. Troopers said a 1998 semi tractor-trailer driven by Pedro Martinez-Fernandez, 39, of Live Oak, was headed north on I-75. Ahead of him, other cars were stopped in traffic.

Troopers said Martinez-Fernandez did not see the stopped traffic and hit a 2006 Saturn driven by Ms. Anderson. That crash caused a chain reaction: The Saturn hit a 2006 Toyota van driven by Wolfgang. The van hit a 2009 Toyota Camry driven by Michelle McFee, 46, of Land O’ Lakes. The Camry hit a 2016 Toyota SUV driven by Jonathan Kushner, 31, of Lutz.

Northbound I-75 was closed until 11:45 p.m.
