Spring Hill Man Dies After Crashing into Vacant House

The driver suffered a medical emergency before the crash, FHP troopers said.

HERNANDO COUNTY – A Spring Hill man died today (Nov. 27) after a single-vehicle crash that ended when his car hit an empty house, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Domingo Rivera, 86, of Spring Hill, died at Oak Hill Regional Medical Center in Brooksville, where he was taken after the crash.

The crash happened about 10:08 a.m. on Elston Street at Irondale Avenue in Hernando County.

Troopers said Mr. Rivera was driving a 2017 Chevrolet Impala west on Elston Street when he suffered a medical emergency. The Chevrolet traveled to the north shoulder of the road where it hit a mailbox then traveled southwest across Elston where it collided with a fire hydrant. After that, the Chevrolet continued west across Irondale Avenue and hit the bedroom portion of a vacant concrete home on Irondale.
