PLANT CITY – A single-engine plane crashed this morning (Sept. 27) while landing at the Plant City Airport, according to the Plant City Police Department.

The pilot, Talin L. Beach, 18, of Mulberry, was the sole occupant of the aircraft. He suffered minor injuries that did not require him to be taken to a hospital.

The crash happened about 9:25 a.m. at the airport, 4007 Airport Road.

Police said the plane was trying to land when it “experienced a wind-related event causing the pilot to brake heavily before losing control of the aircraft. The plane, a Cessna Model 172, left the runway to the north, went down a shallow incline and into a canal before coming to final rest.

The extent of damage to the aircraft is unknown at this time, however it appears to be minor. There was no damage to any additional airport buildings or assets. The incident was contained within the Plant City Airport property.

The Federal Aviation Administration was notified of the crash and will conduct an independent investigation. A representative from the airport responded as well and secured the airplane for the FAA investigation.
