Semi Driver Dies in I-4 Crash

He suffered a medical emergency.

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY – A semi-tractor-trailer driver died Wednesday (Oct. 10) in a single-vehicle crash on I-4, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Ernest James, 64, of Port St. Lucie, died at the scene.

The crash happened about 5:21 p.m. on I-4 at about mile marker 19 in HIllsborough County.

Troopers said Mr. James was driving a 2016 semi west on I-4 when he suffered a medical emergency and lost control of the tractor-trailer, which was not loaded. The tractor-trailer left the road, traveled onto the shoulder and hit a fence.
