Seffner Man Dies When Pickup Truck Overturns on I-4

He sideswiped another vehicle before overturning, the Florida Highway Patrol says.

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY – A Seffner man died Wednesday (Jan. 25) when his truck overturned after sideswiping another vehicle on I-4, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Alberto Martinez, 30, of Seffner, died at the scene. He was not wearing a seat belt, troopers said. Donna Haynes, 58, of Nova Scotia, the driver of the other vehicle, received minor injuries. She was treated at the scene.

The crash happened about 8:39 p.m. in the westbound lanes of I-4 west of Branch Forbes Road. Mr. Martinez, who was driving a 1994 Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck, used the paved shoulder of the road to pass o the right a 2004 Suzuki STL84 driven by Haynes.

Troopers said that, when the Chevrolet reentered the travel lanes, it sideswiped the Suzuki. It then traveled across all westbound lanes of traffic, spun, hit a guardrail and overturned.
