Ruskin Man Dies in U.S. 41 Crash

He was driving erratically before the crash, FHP troopers say.

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY – A Ruskin man died Sunday (Oct. 6) in a single-vehicle crash on U.S. 41, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Axel R. Figueroa, 30, of Ruskin, died at the scene Troopers said he died at the scene of the crash. He was not wearing a seat belt and it is unknown if alcohol was a factor in the crash.

The crash happened about 3:40 p.m. on U.S. 41 near Valroy Road in Hillsborough County.

Troopers said Mr. Figueroa was driving a 1994 Nissan pickup south on U.S. 41 in an erratic manner when he lost control of the truck.

The pickup left the road and entered the center median. Mr. Figueroa over-corrected to the right and caused the truck to travel back across the road onto the outside shoulder. The truck then rotated and collided with a tree.
