Riverview Man Dies in U.S. 301 Crash
The other driver was seriously injured.
HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY – A Riverview man died when his car hit a pole during a crash on U.S. 301, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
James Alvarez, 26, of Riverview, died at the scene. The other driver, Victoria Rutt, 62, also of Riverview, was taken to Tampa General Hospital in serious condition.
The crash happened about 9:04 p.m. on northbound U.S. 301 at Pleasant Drive. Troopers said Mr. Alvarez was driving a 2016 Hyundai Veloster north on 301 at a high rate of speed. Ms. Rutt was driving a 1998 Toyota Tacoma south on 301.
The Toyota turned left onto Pleasant Drive into the path of the Hyundai. The vehicles collided and the Hyundai was propelled into a utility pole on the west shoulder.
