New Port Richey Pedestrian Dies in Hit and Run Crash

The driver was found at his home shortly after the crash, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

NEW PORT RICHEY – A pedestrian died Saturday (May 12) night in a traffic crash on Bruin Drive, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Christopher J. Ryan, 29, of New Port Richey, died at the scene.

The crash happened about 9:03 p.m. on Bruin Drive south of State Road 52. Austin Patrick Payne, 27, of New Port Richey, was driving a 1992 Buick north on Bruin. Troopers said he failed to see Mr. Ryan who was walking along Bruin and hit him.

After the crash, troopers said, Payne left the scene and drove to his home on Echo Loop where he and the Buick were found. The crash does not appear to be alcohol related.

The incident remains under investigation, troopers said.
