Plant City Man Dies in I-4 Crash
He overtook and collided with a tractor-trailer, FHP troopers said.
HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY – A Plant City man died this morning (June 6) when he crashed into the rear of a semi tractor-trailer, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
Erik Adam Walton, 45, of Plant City, died at the scene. Troopers said he was not wearing a seat belt. Alcohol was not a factor in the crash.
The crash happened about 2:58 a.m. on I-4 east of County Road 579 in Hillsborough County.
Troopers said a 2008 Volvo semi tractor-trailer was headed east on I-4 when it overheated. The driver pulled onto the shoulder of the road to make repairs. After the repairs were finished, the tractor-trailer began to travel east again and entered the outside lane.
Mr. Walton, who was driving a 1996 Geo Tracker, overtook and collided with the rear of the trailer.
