Plant City Crash Kills Two Teens

Both were passengers in one of the three vehicles. Another teen, who was driving the car, was critically injured and two children in another vehicle received minor injuries, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

PLANT CITY – Two teens died and one suffered critical injuries in a three-vehicle collision in Plant City on Thursday (May 25), the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Frinzi Salgado-Diaz, 15, died at the scene. Pepe Salgado, 18, was taken to Tampa General Hospital where he died of his injuries. Edilberto Nava-Marcos, 18, of Lakeland Regional Medical Center, was taken to Lakeland Regional Medical Center in critical condition. All three were from Mulberry.

Gabriel Fontanez, 10, and Jerimiah Fontanez, 7, both of Plant City, were taken to Lakeland Regional with minor injuries. They were passengers in a 2015 Honda Civic driven by Danisia Fontanez, 28, of Plant City.

The crash happened about 2:30p.m. at the intersection of State Road 39 and Trapnell Road. Troopers said a 2002 Toyota Corolla driven by Nava-Marcos was traveling north on SR 39 in the left turn lane. It turned into the path of the Honda. The two cars collided and the Toyota spun and collided with a 2006 Ford Freestar driven by Alma Reyes, 31, of  Plant City, who was stopped eastbound on Trapnell at a red traffic light.
