POLK COUNTY – A 12-year-old boy died and the other two people in the car in which he was riding were seriously injured in a traffic crash this morning (Dec. 12) in Polk County, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Miguel Resendiz, 12, died at the scene. Maricela Resendiz, 29, was taken to Lakeland Regional Hospital, and Angel Resendiz, 4, was taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital, with serious injuries. All were from Plant City.

The other driver, Carlos Colchado, 38, of Fort Meade, received minor injuries but was not taken to a hospital.

The crash happened about 7:59 a.m. at the intersection of State Road 60 and Bailey Road. Maricela Resendiz was driving a 2007 BMW 328XI east on SR 60. Colchado was driving a 1996 semi tractor-trailer west on SR 60.

Troopers said the BMW turned left onto Bailey and, violating the semi’s right of way, traveled into the path of the truck. The semi hit the BMW.
