Pinellas County deputies and officers from five departments will be on the lookout for drunken driving tonight.

PINELLAS COUNTY – Pinellas County deputies, in conjunction with the Clearwater, Gulfport, Largo, St. Petersburg and Tarpon Springs police departments, and G4S Prisoner Transport will conduct a DUI wolf pack operation.

The operation will begin at 5 p.m. today (Sept. 3) and continue until 3.a.m. Monday (Sept. 4), but will also maintain a proactive profile over the Labor Day weekend on Pinellas’ highly traveled roads.

The operation is part of the Pinellas County Sheriff’s ongoing commitment to reduce deaths, injuries and property damage associated with traffic crashes related to impaired driving. The goal of the Wolf Pack is to educate people and create public awareness about the dangers of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and any chemical or controlled substances.

Mothers Against Drunk Driving, Remove Intoxicated Drivers USA, and the Suncoast Safety Council will be supporting law enforcement during the operation.

The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office will be conducting wolf packs continuously throughout the year.

The Pinellas County wolf pack is not the only one in Tampa Bay this weekend. The Florida Highway Patrol is spearheading a weekend-long wolf pack in Hillsborough, Pasco, Hernando and Polk counties from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. The FHP wolf pack started hunting Friday and will end Monday (Sept. 4). The wolf pack operation will focus on State Road 589 (Suncoast Parkway and Veterans Expressway), SR-568 (Veterans Expressway), and SR-570 (Polk Parkway).
