The other driver ran a stop sign that was hidden by a parked semi-tractor trailer, Pinellas Park police said.

PINELLAS PARK – A St. Petersburg man died Tuesday (Dec. 27) of injuries he received in a traffic crash that closed a roadway for three hours, Pinellas Park police said.

Phillip Ezell, 34 of St. Petersburg, died at Bayfront Hospital, where he was taken after the crash.

The crash happened about 4:40 p.m. at 122nd Avenue and 46th Street N in an industrial area of the city. Police said a 2010 Hyundai Azera driven by Valerie Halick, 23, of Tampa was traveling north on 46th approaching the stop sign at 122nd Avenue. Mr. Ezell was driving a 2005 Kawasaki motorcycle west on 122nd.

The Hyundai did not stop at the sign, officers said, which was obscured by a 2016 International semi-truck owned by Heartland Express and driven by Phillip Spencer, 47. The Hyundai entered the intersection, crossing directly in front of the Kawasaki, which hit the passenger side of the car. Mr. Ezell, who was wearing a helmet, was thrown from his motorcycle.

Police said the owner/operator of the semi was issued a citation for parking within 30 feet of the stop sign.
